Thousands of parents throng hospitals

DINDIGUL: Thousands of parents, mostly women with babies, picketed Tiruchi-Dindigul main road in front of the Government Hospital here on Sunday, seeking treatment to their children who were given polio drops.
Over 3,000 thronged the GH since afternoon. Even as doctors repeatedly appealed to them not to believe rumours, they refused to go home and thronged the emergency ward and office of the Joint Director of Health Services for check-up.
Parents flooded Main Road before the GH. Traffic was closed and buses were diverted.
Deputy Director of Health Services R. Jagadeesh Kumar announced through a speaker fitted on a police jeep that the drops administered to the children were of good quality. He advised the parents not to worry and return home.
The hospital staff and the police could not control the crowd as influx of parents continued unabated till 6 p.m.
The Palani GH was also overflowing with rural people.
