VELLORE: The Indian Railways have identified 144 railway stations and four metro railway stations in the country as prone to terrorism and sabotage.
It has started the work on the introduction of an integrated security system to tackle terrorism in railway stations and trains, according to R. Velu, Union Minister of State for Railways.
Talking to newspersons after inaugurating the Vellore-Cantonment to Chennai Beach Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) service at the Vellore Cantonment railway station here on Sunday, Mr. Velu said that the government had sanctioned Rs.60 crore for the immediate purchase of equipment for the introduction of the integrated security system.
Mr. Velu said that the MEMU would leave Vellore Cantonment at 6 a.m. and reach Chennai Beach at 9.10 a.m., while in the return direction, it would leave Chennai Beach at 6 p.m. and reach Vellore Cantonment at 9.15 p.m.
